Pre-School

Pre School

We are very proud of our pre-school department at AAPA and it has been developed by our faculty over the last 11 years. We start all our little budding stars under the age of 3 years old in our specialist Mac the Monkey classes. The scientific evidence shows that there is an important link between the participation in an Early Years class in music and dance and the development of the child. Our classes enhance and develop the Social, Physical, Lingual, Intellectual, Creative, Emotional, Numeracy and early year’s Literacy skills of your child. By participation in our classes your child will grow in confidence and gain an enjoyment and appreciation of dance, music and drama at an early age giving an ideal head start to your little one.

Minis

Minis

At this age our classes follow a more syllabus style class in preparation for examinations if students wish to take them. The syllabus that we follow in each class and our teacher’s lesson plans have been very carefully thought out and put in practise for many years ensuring that children progress and learn at stages appropriate for their age and stage development, keeping in mind the changing physicality of each dancer’s body as they grow. The classes have a fun element to them but are fully focussed so that they challenge the student’s to progress and reach their full potential. We now offer the Mini’s at this age to take part in our competition teams. Whether they want to do a Solo, Duo or Trio or just be part of a group performance there is something on offer within our competition team to suit all children and levels of confidence. The only requirement we have is that children take part in at least 2 classes a week and commit to our weekly competition class. We take part in competitions for fun more so than winning 1st place at this age but we recognise all successes the students achieve through hard work in rehearsal. We find that taking part in competitions gives the student a purpose and goal to aim to with their dance and performing arts classes learning vital life skills along the way.

Juniors

Juniors

Our Junior Classes are longer in length and challenge and push students more than the Mini’s classes. Students who are at the older end of the Junior Age Group and have good strength, turn out, great Ballet technique and who have been dancing with us an appropriate amount of years might able to join our Pointe classes (at the teacher’s discretion and judgement).

Our Musical Theatre Class is now longer to allow for more rehearsal time for shows. Our Junior students’ combine with our seniors to take part in the end of year musical every June at a local theatre. We encourage students now to also explore taking part in Musical Theatre Solo examination – a great way to achieve a worldwide recognised qualification, expand skills and have fun.

Our Junior Students all work towards the same goals in class and are not split into exam and non-exam groups. We do put more emphasis on exam work now because at this age we feel it is important for the student to have a solid achievement to work towards. There is no better feeling than a student putting in extra hard work for a few months before an exam and being able to celebrate their success with them. Our competition team for this age group continues and if children haven’t already done so, we encourage them to explore the option of performing Solos and Duo/Trios.

Seniors

Seniors

Our Senior Classes are now longer in length and challenge and push students more than ever before. Students who have a great ballet technique, good strength, turn out and who have been dancing an appropriate amount of years might progress onto our Pointe classes (at the teacher’s discretion and judgement).

Our Musical Theatre Class is now longer to allow for more rehearsal time for shows. Our Senior students’ combine with our Juniors to take part in the end of year musical every June at a local theatre. Our Seniors are considered Role Models within our school and relish the chance to work with younger students and pass on performance tips and techniques when we perform the Musical. We encourage students now to also explore taking part in Musical Theatre Solo examination – a great way to achieve a worldwide recognised qualification, expand skills and have fun.

Our classes are focussed and structured to allow the senior student time to develop and find their own individual style of performance and develop skills such as improvisation which is an important skill for individual performance and auditions. We have a support system in place to recognise where a student may want to train for the profession and we can prepare them for college auditions.
